STORM

A Glass of Water (stuck in an eternal state of storm)

June 2012

English: A storm in a teacup
Dutch: Een storm in een glas water
German: Ein Sturm im Wasserglas
French: Une tempte dans un verre d’eau
Spanish: Una tormenta en un vaso de agua

Inspired by a saying that seems to be common in many languages, I decided to create a real version.

A device to control the depth, speed and direction of a whirlpool. Combined with lights of with controllable brightness and colour. With these elements I created a composition that slowly develops from a quiet breeze to a heavy storm.

Besides the patterns created in the water, the installation also creates light projections on the walls and ceiling that vary together with the shape of the whitlpool.

Does a storm in a glass of water have a wind force?
